The power of networking

TLDR: Don’t underestimate the power of networking.

When you are starting any kind of business, your biggest challenge is making sure other people know about you and what you offer so they can become your customers.

When you are starting an online business, you have the same challenge, but without a physical storefront that is visible to people walking or driving by.

Having an online presence through a website or social media account is definitely a great place to start, but I’m here to remind you of another strategy: networking.

In order to be seen by others, it’s important to make an effort to connect with other people, either in online spaces or in person.

Last year, I’ve made a conscious effort to connect with business owners, solopreneurs, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and other professionals through online communities such as: Teamwrkr and Together Digital.

I’ve also learned about the value of seeking more localized networking opportunities such as meetings through: chambers of commerce, Main Street associations, Rotary clubs, Outstanding Ohio, Working Women Connection, and women’s leadership conferences and events.

Through these organizations and their networking opportunities, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting incredibly skilled people who understand what it’s like to run their own business. It can be like having a bunch of instant friends – with the added bonus of eventually connecting with a future client in them or through referrals from them.

So take a deep breath and get out there. You never know how your life will change for the better!
